Silk Wins Miramar Golf Tournament
CLOSE BATTLE WITH BLACK. Per Press Association. WELLINGTON, Last Night. After 36 holes of steady and at times brilliant golf 13. M. Silk (Wanganui) defeated H. A. Black (Wellington) in the final of the Miramar Club’s New Year tournament to-day. Silk and Black put up some excellent performances, more so because the high wind made playing conditions very difficult. Silk won "two up after being one down at the beginning of the afternoon round after having csttablished on more than one occasion a lead of four up. bilk s score was 7S in the morning and ii> in the afternoon, while Black’s was 75 in the morning and 76 in the afternoon. Tommy Armour, American open champion, completing the final quarter of a 72-hole competition with his third round below par in three days, won the Miami (Florida) open golf championship from 150 starters by a margin of nine strokes with a total of 255.
