Buoyant Market at Addington Sale
WELCOME BISE IN FAT LAMBS. Per Press Association. CHRISTCHURCH, Last Nigiit. The effect of the prolonged spell ot dry weather was evidenced by the general poor quality in the fat stock sections at the Addington market to-day. With tho exception of tho fat cattle sale the market was reasonably buoyant and the advance in 'fat lamb values was welcome to vendors.
Store sheep: A medium sized entry consisting in the main of station wethers with no alteration in values. Values were: Ordinary ewes and lambs to 6s 2d, good 4-tootli Romney wethers lls Od to 12s Cd, ordinary 4 and 6-tooth halfbred wethers 5s 6d to 7s, medium 4 and 6-tooth halfbred wethers 7s 3d to 9s, ordinary 2-tooth halfbred wethers 6s Sd to 7s 3d, extra good three-quar-ter bred ewe hoggets to 17s, extra good three-quarter bred wether hoggets to 14s 4d, ordinary 2-tooth ewes S 3 Sd to 9s, good 4-tooth Romney cross ewes to 11s 9d.
Pat. lambs: An entry of 866, the smallest for a, long time. Best lambs advanced 3s a head and lower grades Is a head. Tho price per pound for best lambs rose above 6d in the case of some butchers’ purchases. Values were: Extra prime lambs to 24s 4d, prime lambs 18s to 20s, medium lambs 15s to 17s 6d, light lambs 13s to 14s 6d. Eat sheep: An entry of 4200 with the general quality not as good as at recent sales. Market firm with an advance of Is a head. Values were: Prime heavy wethers to 20s lOd, medium weight prime 16s 9d, to 18s 9d, ordinary 14s to 16s, light 10s 6d to 13s Gd, prime heavy ewes to 17s 4d, medium weight prime 12s 9d to 14s 9d, ordinary 10s to 12s, light Ss 6d to 9s 6d. Fat cattle: An entry of 350 head with a steady sale for good beef at an advance of 10s a head but poor and unfinished sorts were not in demand. Best beef made from 24s 6d to 27s lOOlbs., good beef 22s to 245, heavy beef 19s to 225, inferior beef down to ,16s, rough down to 11s. Values were: Prime heavy steers £9 10s to £ll 17s 6d, prime medium weight £7 to £9, ordinary £4 15s to £6 15s, light to £4 ss, prime heifers to £8 2s 6d, medium £4 5s to £6 ss, light £2 10s to £3 15s, extra prime cows to £lO 7s 6d, prime £5 to £B, medium £3 10s to £4 15s, light £1 15s to £3.
Fat pigs: There was an over supply of pork in the fat pig pens and the demand was again weaker. Tho market for medium weight bacon was firmer. Values were: Choppers 48s 6d to £4 6s, baconers 37s 6d to 44s 6d, heavy baconers 47s 6d to 52s 6d, average price a pound, heavy 3d to 3Jd; medium 3sd to 4Jd, porkers 27s 6d to. 32s 6d, heavy porkers 33s 6d to 54s 6d, average price a pound 4Jd to 5Jd.
