Alarming Death Roll in Influenza

COINCIDENT WITH HEAT WAVE IN PERTH. United Press Association. —By Electric Telegraph.—-Copyright. (Received This Day, 10.15 a.m.) PERTH, Dec. 9. Over a hundred people have died from influenza in Perth in the last few days. The outbreak is attributed to a heat wave, the temperature having averaged 99 degrees for five days, the highest point reached being 101 deg. On Monday 21 funerals were conducted at Karrakatta Cemetery, which number was the highest total for any day since the cemetery was opened 33 years ago. The previous record was 19, in 1919, when the influenza epidemic was raging. Yesterday the record went to 29. These figures are alarming the public.
