Clerk's Thefts Caused Employers' Suicides

THE EVIL SPIRIT OF THE FIRM United Press Association.—By Electric Telegraph.—Copyright. Received Wednesday, 9.50 p.m. MELBOURNE, Dee. 9. Charles Everest, aged 30, a law clerk, was sentenced to four years’ imprisonment for fraud and falsification of hip employers’ books. Everest was employed by Loughrcy and Douglas, solicitors, both of whom committed suicide earlier in the year. Judgo Woinarski commented that Everest was probably the evil spirit of this unfortunate firm, and he was possibly responsible for the shortages in clients’ funds which led to the untimely deaths of his employers.
