A cable message states that Alderman S. Walder has been elected Lord Mayor of Sydney in succession to Alderman Jackson.

Mr D. Watson, engineer of the Pohangina County Council, is still confined to his home with an injured leg. He was unablo to attend yesterday's meoting of the council. The following resignations were received at yesterday’s meeting of the Wanganui Education Board: —Mrs. E. K. Turnbull, head teacher, UroaU'ord; Z. Meads, head teacher, Rata; T. H. Attwood, assistant, West End; Miss I. E. Wells, assistant, Oroua Downs. Mrs. Turnbull lias been in the,service of the board over a long period of years, and the secretary was instructed to forward to her a special letter of appreciation.

The Council of the Palmerston North Chamber of Commerce on Tuesday reelected Mr M. H. Oram president for tho ensuing year. In moving Mr Oram’s re-appointment, Mr W. H. Brown said that, during his occupation of the presidential chair, Mr Oram had brought the chamber from a self-elected body to ono elected by popular vote.
