THE POSITION IN OTAGO. Per Press Association. DUNEDIN, Last Night. Mr. Charles Todd advised the Otago executive of the Reform League by telegram from Wellington to-day that tho newspapers had no authority for announcing his withdrawal as the Reform candidate from tho Otago Central contest. It is understood that Mr. Todd’s decision to contest the scat against the Coalition-United condidato, Mr. W. A. Bodkin, M.P., is the result of the announcement that Mr. Peter McSkimming, who was selected as the United candidate for the Clutha scat before tho Coalition was arranged will stand as an Independent Coalitionist against the sitting Reform member Mr. Fred Waite. Mr. James Taylor has definitely decided not to contest the Dunedin North seat. Another * ‘ Independent ’ ’ WHANG ARE I, Last Night. Mr. William Jones, who represented Marsden in the Reform interests in the 1925-28 Parliament and was defeated by Mr. A. J. Murdoch last' election, has declared his intention to contest the seat as an Independent Reform Coalitionist, tionist. Labourite Nominee for Oamaru OAMARU, Last Night. The Oamaru branch of the Labour Party to-night selected Mt. Percival Maltrus, of Hillgrove, a farmer, to contest the Oamaru seat in the Labour interests. This is the first time that the constituency has been contested by the party.
