United Press Association. —By .Electric Telegraph.—Copyright. SHANGHAI, Sept. 2. Hopes are being held out for the return of the Yangtse Biver to its normal level in three weeks. Firms whose buildings have not collapsed are endeavouring to resume business on the upper floors. It is estimated that ten days’ pumping will be necessary to drain the business district of Hankow. Elaborate preparations are in progress to combat epidemics. Thousands of corpses and carcases are being exposed as the water subsides.
