THE BUTTER PROBLEM United Press Association.—By Electric Telegraph.—Copyright. Received Thursday, 9,20 p.m. OTTAWA, Aug. 19. “We note with pleasure your desire to enter into direct personal negotiations with tho least possible delay, and shall take np the question of time and place as soon as it suits the convenience of the New Zealand Government after the general election.” So Premier Bennett told Premier Forbes in the most recent correspondence between the two Governments. This briefly summarises the present status of the trade relation negotiations between Canada and New Zealand. Referring to butter, Mt. Bennett said: “Our policy is to foster this natural essential industry, and we anticipate that normally Canadian producers will supply tho homo market, but it is probable that winter shortages will Teeur, and in any ease, so far as imports are necessary, it is our desire to give preference to supplies front reciprocating Dominions.”
