Further Triumph for Palmerston Amateurs
“THE NAUGHTY WIFE” SEASON CONCLUDED.
Bringing a short but very successful season to a close on Saturday evening, the Palmerston North Amateur Operatic Society has scored another triumph with the presentation of the comedy, “The Naughty Wife.” Playing to a capacity house, the members of the cast reached the heights and kept the audience in a ripple of laughter, earning for themselves prolonged applause at the conclusion of the performance. The bright incidental music contributed by the orchestra under the conductorship of Mr. A. J. Graham, added much to tho success of the production.
The ladies of the cast were the recipients of many beautiful floral tributes amidst rounds of applause. Congratulations were offered by the Mayor (Mr. A. Jfcl. Mansford) and Mr. B, J. Jacobs (president of the society). Mr. Jacobs took tho opportunity of thanking all those who had assisted in any way in the successful production, making special mention of the 0. At. Boss Co., Ltd., Cowling’s, Ltd., H. N. Blandford, Ltd., (for the loan of fur coats), Air. Harry llillmev, Alessrs. Coilinson and (Son, tho Broadway Lounge, the orchestra, the conductor (Air. A. J. Graham), the ieader (Airs. Law), and the pianist (Airs. Clift, L.A.8.), Airs. J. Bvans, who had charge of the sweet stall, anti her willing band of helpers, the secretary (Airs. A. E. Hansel) for her general work in connection with the production, particularly in regard to the decoration of the stage and arrangement of tho flowers. Last, but not least, Air. Jacobs mentioned the generous support and encouragement given by tho general public. Ho then called on Air. Bred Cousins (the producer), Airs. Harry Balmcr (wardrobe mistress), and Air. Con. AleGrath (the property manager) to join him on the stage in order to convey to these three the special thanks of the society for all they had done towards bringing about such a gratifying result, the audience endorsing with enthusiastic applause. There was a general feeling of regret that tho season had been such a short one, nevertheless the Central Belief Committee, for which the play was staged, will benefit to the extent of close on £IOO.
