DANNEVIRKE DEFEATS FUKEXUI

Ou Saturday afternoon at Rugby Park, Danevirke, the Dannevirke representative Rugby team met Puketoi in an even match. The weather was fine and there was practically no wind. A good crowd of spectators lined the sunny side of the field.

The visitors' team included a. wellknown ex-Dannevirke player in Peeti, who, as first five-eighths, proved to be strongest point in the visitors’ back line. Puketoi fielded a good pack of

forwards, while the home pack while good in the loose, failed to get thoir sliaro of the ball in the scrums. Godfrey played a safe game at full-back, and J. Power’s cool play in five-eighths saved several dangerous situations. The home backs worked well and gave Mills the opportunity to use his speed to. advantage. The Game. Dannevirke set the ball in motion and during the first few minutes Power was afforded two shots at goal from near half-way, both attempts failed, and play returned to the half-way mark. sion. From a scrum yellows again pressed and were awarded a free kick but Grant failed. From tho twentyfive, Puketoi found tho line near the yellow corner, but yellows cleared from tho line-out. Near half-way Grant snapped up and transferred to Brogan who kicked to touch at the black twenty-five. From the line-out black forwards broke away and play went to tho home twenty-five. Yellows pressed and Smith secured, passed to Brogan to Mills who crossed at tho corner. The kick failed. —Dannevirke 14, Puketoi 5. Black forwards battled and Godfrey was caught in possession and ran out behind the corner. From the scrum blacks secured and Peeti battled his way over. Corin failed with the kick. —Dannevirke 14, Puketoi 8. From the half-way mark black forwards dribbled through and rapidly gained the lino and Bowie finalised. Peeti missed with the kick.—Dannevirke 14, Puketoi 11. • From a serum just outside the black twenty-five, Marsh sent a long pass to Mills who set out on a brilliant solo run, to score near the corner. Power failed with the kick.—Dannevirke 17, Puketoi 11. Blacks pressed and a series of scrums followed near the yellow corner, but from a line-out yellows cleared to half-way. The black forwards made the pace solid and made several raids. Peeti was afforded a free kick in a good position on the yellow twenty-five and his kick was successful.—Dannevirke 17, Puketoi 14. Subsequent play was brisk but further score did not seem likely in the time. The bell sounded with the ball in touch in mid-field. Mr. W. Smith refereed.
