Horowhenua Defeat Manawatu
The Levin domain saw the stage set for the second meeting of the . Horowhenua and Manawatu teams. Horowhenua gained a merited victory after dominating play for the greater part of the game. The first half did not produce much in the way of brilliant football,, and Horowhenua were leading 6 to 5. After the interval Horowhenua started to throw the ball about with good effect and succeeded in keeping Manawatu on the defensive for the greater portion of the three-quarters of an hour. The Horowhenua forwards more than held their own and the backs were content to keep Manawatu quiet rather than attempt big scoring. Ryder at full-back for Horowhenua was particularly safe and it was noticeable during the second half that any attempt at a break' away by Fletcher or his companions was quickly smothered before they had progressed far. Mr. E. Muleaby’s control of the game gave every satisfaction. The teams lined out as follows: Horowhenua (red and blue): Ryder, Broughton, Graham, Gee, Johnson, Warren, Winiata, T. Parata, Roddick, Fitzgerald, Satherley, Gordon Payne, Ransfield, Tatana. Manawatu j(green and white): S. Bramwoll, Fletcher, Page, Eliott, Robb, N. Bramwell, Shapleski, Le Quesne, Henry, Hight, Yendell, Findlay, Miles, William. 1 * McKenzie. The Play.

Reds now went hard for the line and greens had to force to save. Shapleski attempted to run through, but Johnson sent the ball back to touch. Red backs now began to show up better and from a concerted movement by Broughton, Warren and Satherley Roddick crossed but failed to convert: Horowhenua 9, Manawatu 5.
