Why London Does Not Feel the Full Force of Depression
MODERNISING BRITAIN’S INDUSTRIES British Official Wireless Received Sunday, 9.30 p.m. RUGBY, Aug. 16. The annual report of the Chief Inspector of Factories in Great Britain records a dccrcaso in the number of accidental fatal and non-fatal. The report refers to the development of industries iu and around Greater London. In spite of the general depression now works are being built which will provide not only facilities for production of a high order, but for the health, safety and wclfaro of the workers. The reason why London has sufferod less severely from the depression than other areas, it is suggested, is the great variety of its manufactures, but throughout Britain there are many instances of largo expenditures in building bettor factories, laying down modern machinery, and changing methods so as to increase efficiency and achieve economy in production by labour-saving devices, * fuel economy and the use of new materials
