“The Naughty Wife”

n Tho Palmerston North Amateur Operatic Society's comedy attraction, “Tho Naughty Wife," to bo staged at tho Opera House on August 13, 14 and 10, is well-known to playgoers. Tho first production of> Fred Jackson's comedy in three acts was staged at tho Playhouse, London, on April 11, 1918, when the leading characters of Eloise Farrington (the naughty wife) and Hilary Farrington (the husband) were portrayed by two world-known artists, Miss Gladys Cooper and Mr. Charles Hawtrey, The author has filled the comedy with some very complex and amusing situations, and tho portrayal of the parts calls for clever acting. The society is fortunate in having the choice of some very clever amateurs, and the cast selected to portray tho leading characters includes such well-known artists as Miss Ula Hancock, as the naughty wife; Miss Betty Mcßae, Nora Gail; Mr. Amos McKegg, Hilary Farrington; and Mr. M. H. Oram, llarrell McKnight; along with Miss E. Boon and Messrs. A. E. Eising, Forbes and Fitzherbcrt. One of the strongest casts ever put forth by the society will be seen at the Opera House on August 13, 14 and 15. The wardrobing is in tho capable hands of Mrs. H. Palmer, and tho frocking is to bo on an elaborate scale. Properties and effects fall to tho lot of Mr. C. McGrath, and in this department nothing will be amiss. Tho whole production is in the hands of Mr. Fred Cousins, whose capabilities in amateur theatricals are too well-known to the public of Palmerston North to need any introduction. The society is handing the total net profits to the Central Relief Committee, and with such a good cause and popular prices a successful threo nights' season' is assured. The box plan opens on Monday for members and on Tuesday for the general public.
