Motorist Collides With Live Wire

NARROW ESCAPE IN RANGITIKEI STREET. Motorists often meet with peculiar accidents. On Thursday morning at 3 minutes to 4 a local driver was proceeding down Rangitikci street when suddenly his car hit something in an apparently deserted street. A blue ffiunc shot up and this was accompanied by a sound of breaking glass. On pulling up it was iound that the electric light in tho centre of Rangitikei street, opposite the junction of Urey street, had somehow dropped with the result that the wire was hanging about a foot above the ground. As tho wire was alive contact was made but fortunately was broken when tho wire snapped with the weight of the ear. Considerable damage was done to the electric lines and 'phono lines. The car got oil with minor damage owing to the wire hitting below tho bumper. . - It was fortunate that the wire had dropped so low otherwise the 401 b. lamp would have smashed the windscreen and damaged tho driver. TJie wire was carrying a 230 volt current.
