SCHOOL COMMITTEE MEETING.

The usual monthly meeting oi' the Kongo lea School Committee was held iu tne school room on Monday evening, when there were present: Messrs. W. J. Amies (chairman), W. Mathcson, O. D. Tuuniclill'e, E. 0. Saxton (secretary) and the headmaster, Mr. L. X Walker. The headmaster's report showed that the roll number tvas now 109, and the average attendance good when the abnormal weather conditions were considered. It had been necessary, during the extremely wet weather, to keep the pupils from tho playing area whien v.as a quagmire. The hoekey and foot--1 rall competitions had both concluded. The boys' junior soven-atide team had done very well in the primary schools' competition, eventually contesting the liual with a heavy team from tho Concent School being beaten by a narrow margin S —s. The concrete path to the stile had been laid down. The Education Eoard's architect (Mr. S. It. Hodge) had recently visited the school and agreed to put a drain tap to the heating system. A further supply of cake aud slack was required for the heating system.

On tne motion of Mr. Saxton, it was resolved lo oiler prizes for tho best collection of grasses by pupils of tho school, tho details of tho competition to bo arranged later The secretary reported tho business conducted at tho meeting of those interested in the Calf Club competition. It had been resolved to again form the Kongotea group of schools, including Kopane, Glen Oroua, Taikorea and Kongotea schools, Mr. W. J. Croucher, organiser of this group, had attended the meeting and given much valuable information relative to the rearing and feeding of calves. It was resolved to leave the matter of topping the trees in abeyance in the meantime and to procure a further supply of fuel for school heating. The chairman and the secretary undertook to socuro the necessary signatures to the petition re conveyance of pupil s to secondary schools to be presented to the House.

EUCHRE AND DANCE. On Tuesday evening tho usual fortnightly euchre and dance held in connection with tho Anglican Church, was well patronised. Tho ladies’ prize for progressive euchre presented by Mrs. W. S. Walker, was won by Mrs. C. Donovan, with 1-1 points, Mr. B. Gibson with 14i points winning the prize presented by Mr. E. J. Rose. Consolation awards were handed to Mis s P. Freeklington and Mr. James Teaz. The prize for tho musical parcel competition was won by Mrs. M. Bower. . At tho conclusion of tho cards a dainty supper was served by the ladies after which dancing was indulged in till quite a late hour, the music being supplied by Miss D. Harvey, Miss M. Kose, Miss P. Freeklington with the aid of a gramophone.
