Germent Afternoon At- League of Mothers’ Monthly Meeting

The monthly meeting of the Palmerston'North branch of the League of Mothers, held in St. Andrew’s memorial hall yesterday afternoon, was of particular interest in that it was ’garment’ afternoon. There was a very large attendance of members, each of whom had brought along a warm garment or garments for the district nurse to distribute in furtherance of her work, and there was a wonderful collection of beautifully made garments. ; During the afternoon Mrs. G. G. I-lan-con, who presided, introduced Miss Jamieson, acting-district nurse, and asked her to accept the gifts with the very best wishes from the league members, in the hope that they would provide comfort for some of tho little people in the district. Miss Jamieson expressed her thanks, saying it would be a great joy to her to distribute such lovely things. The usual attention had been given to providing a delicious afternoon tea, and the room was beautiful with spring flowors. Hostesses for tho afternoon were Mesdames J. Marshall, Swallow, Lee, Burgess, Vascy and Miss L. Becroft, A pleasing innovation wrns a demonstration of barbola -work by Mrs. N. Ballinger, which proved most fascinating. Under tho skilful manipulation of tho demonstrator’s lingers a rose and other flowers, with foliage and fruit, came into being, while practical hints and explanations were being given. Charming samples of tho iinished articles were handed round, rousing the members to the keenest appreciation. Pleasing entertainment was provided by Misses G.. Taylor and Rcnaj Penman, who contributed pianoforte duets, and Mrs. Bennett, who gave elocutionary items. Thanks to Mrs. Ballinger, the performers and the hostesses, were voiced by Mrs, Lemberg and.. carried by acclamation. i,

The pronouncement of the lehguc prayer by the president concluded tho meeting. Apologies-for absence were tendered on behalf of Mrs. H. B. Free and Mrs. Gray.
