Stable Roof Blown Across Road
HIGH WIND AT KIMBOLTON The township of Kimbolton experienced a sensational incident on Monday afternoon at about 4.30 o’clock, when the raging nor'-westerly gale lifted a large section of the iron roof of the towni stable premises and carried it over the highway to cause it to crash into and extensively damage Craighead’s garage. Very fortunately, the incident was without any serious consequences as far as human life was concerned.. At the time the gale was at its height and its power was such as-to wrench away and carry for a distance of over two chains about 30 sheets of iron attached to the rafters. The mass crashed into the front wall of Craighead’s premises opposite, smashing the window's and woodwork, w'hile one section broke away to go through the wall and then take an upward cant, penetrating the roof and dislodging some of the iron. Fortunately, the power lines were high enough to be out of the way of the roof as it came over the roadway, but an electric light wire became entangled and was cut. The dangling end, swaying in the wind, made contact with the iron roof to send off crackling sparks. The incident brought out the townspeople, who had never previously experienced such a gale.
