The phrase, ‘ ’ Saying it with flowers ’ ’ assumed a novel interpretation at the home of Mrs. S. Stanwood Menken in Now York lately, when she was robbed of jdwels valued at £30,000. Mrs Menken is famous for her jewellery, which she displays spectacularly at social events. Ac 10 a.m. a man called at her New York home with a box of flowers, and while a woman servant was signing a receipt, two other men appeared armed with revolvers, and forced their way into tho house. Before going upstairs the men collected the servantsl and an upholsterer working .in tho house, bound them, stuck adhesive tape .over their mouths, and locked them in a small room. Then they awakened Mrs Menken and forced her, with three revolvers levelled at her, to get up and. open the wall safe in which , her jewels were locked. They took everything and departed. ■; *<l won £i at cards last night." Honestly? " "Well, I won it. ’ ‘ : "What," said the minister to his long-suffering--caddie "is your own recreation?"
