Miss J.-. Webster, of Palmerston North, is spending a short holiday in Auckland. Mrs. Duncan Mtfßetk, of Palmerston North, is the guest of Mrs, A. Coleman at Hawera. Mr. and Mrs. H. Scsirchiicld, of Earnscleugh, Central Otago, have been spending a few days in WoodviUe with Mrs. H. Funke, sister of Mrs. Searchfield. Mrs. A. Me Vicar, of the Wellington Hospital Board, will address the Citizens’ Lunch Club to-day on “Work at the Children’s Court.’’ Mr. F. G. Chamborlain in tho chair. Miss M. T. Aiken, of the Fukcora aanitorium, has been appointed' matron of the Otaki sanitorium, and commenced duties yesterday. She is the daughter of Mrs. and the late Mr. C. H. Aiken, of Palmerston North. Reference to the passing of Mrs. M. A. Eliott was made at the Palmerston North City Council meeting last evening, when a motion of condolence with cx-Councillor M. A. Eliott and his family was carried, councillors standing in silence. On Saturday evening the prefects of the Boys’ High School conducted a dance at the school. There were about 50 couples present and, under the efficient control of Mr. P. 0. Skoglund, an enjoyable evening was spent. Among those present were the rector (Mr. J. Murray) and Mrs. Murray, and members of tho staff. Interspersed throughout. the programme were novelty dances. An old settler in the person of Mrs. Isabelle Guinan passed away recently at the residence of her daughter, Mrs. Tuck, in Hamilton, at the age of SO years. Born and married in Scotland, deceased came to New Zealand with her husband in 1867, After an arduous voyage lasting, six months, the vessel landed the immigrants at Catlins river, in the South Island.. Mr. and Mrs. Guinan settled at Tapanui, where they lived for 17 years. In 1801 they came to the North Island and took up their residence in the Hawke’s Bay district, whore they lived until the death of Mr. Guinan 22 years ago. Since her husband’s passing deceased had resided with members of her family. She is survived by nine daughters and one son—Mcsdames J. Pollard (Palmerston North), G. Tuck (Frnnkton), J. Wood (Ngongotaha), R. Gordon. (Marton), W. Sulman (Australia), A. Lang (Auckland), J. Woollen (Auckland), M. J. Hickey (Cambridge), D. Lourie (Turakina Valley) and Mr. G. Guinan (Auckland).
