' For two hours with steam up, the French liner Paris, recently waited at New York for M. Paderewski, the musician and first premier of the new Poland, to go abroad. Tho veteran pianist —he is now 70 —was performing late that night at a placo outside the city. Directly the concert was over JVi. Paderewski jumped into a car, and dashed through New York at sixty miles an hour. . There were narrow escapes from collisions with two other motor cars, but the wild ride enabled M. Paderewski to catch the steamer, which was carryingmails but was kept back by the couriesy of the United States authorities.
