Preacher Carries Cress into Court

United Press Association.—By Electric Telegraph.—Copyright. LONDON, July 31. Scenes unprecedented in rlic history of the Scottish courts marked the opening of tho trial of Mr J. McGovern, M.P. (Lab.) for Shettlestcn, Oimsgow, and a number of “tramp preachers” and Communists charged with speaking without permits on Glasgow Green. Crowds who entered the Court were preceded by a preacher bearing a cross, which lie refused to remove. Hvnmsinging followed until the Magistrate’s arrival, whereupon McGovern and his comrades stood up and led the boisterous singing of “Stand up, stand up, for Jesus.” The Magistrate ordered that the Court be cleared. One defendant was fined £3, in default 20 days’ imprisonment. The remainder of the cases were adjourned.
