Scullin Again to Lang's Rescue Received Sunday, 9.50 p.m. CANBERRA, Aug. A The Federal Government has arranged to meet interest payments totalling £632,000 duo in London and New York by the New South Wales Government at the end of July. Mr. Scullin found the Commonwealth Bank unprepared to make the necessary advance to New South Wales so he agreed to meet tho liability, but the State is asked to refund the amount as soon as funds are available. £424,000 Saving in Interest RENEWAL OF TREASURY BILLS AT LOWER bate Received Sunday, 9.50 p.m. CANBERRA, Aug. 2. £31,720.000 worth of Treasury bills issued to' cover temporary Government finance matured-' on Friday Mr. Scullin announced that tho Commonwealth and trading banks renewed the bills at 4 per cent instead of 6 per cent. The interest payment is thus reduced by £424,000 per annum. Lang Denies Asking For Governor’s Recall Received Sunday, Midnight. LONDON, Aug. 2. The Evening Standard's lobbyist says Mr. Lang communicated with Mr. J. T. Thomas demanding the recall of Governor Game. Mr. Thomas replied declining to take action. > SYDNEY, Aug. 2. Mr. Lang denies the London report that ho requested Sir Philip Game’s recall. Lang Will Pay Oversea Interest DUE BY NEW SOUTH WALES CANBERRA, Aug. 1. The Commonwealth Government has received written assurance from Mr. Lang that he will assume responsibility for the two oversea interest payments due by his State during the nest two weeks. In South Australia TREASURY BILLS RENEWED AT LOWER INTEREST ADELAIDE, Aug. 1. The Premier .(Mr. L. L. .Hill) teen informed that £1,800,000 worth of South Australian Treasury bills, duo yesterday, have been renewed for a further three months by the banks at 4 per cent. For the previous year the banks chaTged 6 per cent. Domain Orator BEAPPOINTED TO MEAT BOARD SYDNEY, Aug. 1. The Lang Government has restored Hr. A. D. Kay to the Metropolitan Meat Board. He was originally a member of this board, being a Lang appointee, but the Bavin Government removed him, since when Mr. Kay has been a prominent Domain Labour orator. His reappointment is likely to cause a lively controversy. Subsidising Coal SYDNEY, Aug. 1. The State Government has decided that the subsidy to the Railway Commissioners for the haulage of coal a,t cheaper rates will be continued until December 31. This reversed decision is due to strong representations from the Minors’ Federation and tho coal owners.
