BRITAIN’S TORY TARIFFS. LONDON, July 21. Declaring that Great Britain’s fiscal system was shortly going to be changed by the general assent of the nation, the Conservative leader, Mr. Stanley Baldwin, said that he had made up his mind that he would not bo head of a Government which was going to make Great Britain a “profiteers’ paradise” or Parliament a “crook’s corner.” “Wo must mako tho tariff ‘knaveproof’ as far as possible,” ho said. “Therefore, it is essential that the scientific adjustment and adaption ot the tariff should be taken from the hands of politicians by the establishment of a permanent non-political Tariff Commission, tho members of which ought to bo lifted as far abovo partypolitics as his Majesty’s judges. Their duty would bo authoritatively to advise the existing Government regarding tariffs, to which Parliament’s assent would bo necessary.”
