Seniors Shannon 34 v. Moutoa 6. Otaki lfl v. Wanderers 5. SHANNON v. MOUTOA It was generally expected that Moutoa would have an easy game with Shannon, but as often happens, the verdict went the other way. Both teams crossed their opponents' line once, but the excellent penalty kicking of Roddick gave Shannon a win by 14 points to 6. The pace was exceptionally fast for an opening-of-the-season game, and it was maintained throughout the match. Moutoa missed many chances through bad handling, but the Shannon team played well, considering that the members had not previously played together. The teams lined out as follows: Shannon (red and black): Brewer, N. Robbie, Croon, Gee, Shearman, Saxon, Woodmass, Roddick, Grey, Curran, Satkerloy, Small, W. Robbie, Newman, Jude. Moutoa (blue): Kiriona, Fuller, Roberts, Huff, Waka, Goodwin, Moore, Lumsden, Andrews, Pratt, Pine, Payne, Tohi, W. Kohika, Marsb. Payne won the toss for Moutoa and elected to play uphill with the eun at his back. The game commenced with four penalties, in which Shannon had the advantage. Woodmass, Saxon and Croon kept up a strong attack until a penalty let Roddick Shannon 3, Moutoa 0.

The reds, led by Croon, again went to touch in the 25, where Grey carried on down the line. The blues relieved, but Brewer put in a good line kick which found touch by the flag. The throw-in saw Newman cross and Roddick convert. Shannon 8, Moutoa 0. 1 Shannon now attacked, and a penalty for picking out of the scrum saw Roddick raise the flags with a great kick from just inside the half way line. Shannon 11, Moutoa 0. The reds, led by Judo, attacked again, Gee carrying the ball to the 25, where two penalties in quick succession allowed the blues to reach the 25. From a scrum Fuller went down the line to touch, but the reds cleared from the line-out. Waka made a good, attempt to go through, but a forward pass spoiled the movement. From the scrum offside play allowed Tohika to open Moutoa'a score. Shannon 11, Moutoa 3.

From a scrum Roddick found touch well down the line, and a penalty to Shannon saw him again Taise the flags. Shannon 14, Moutoa 3. After the lomons, even play was the order until from the line-out the ball went along the blue three-quarters to Roberts, .who was collared. Waka carried on, but also fell. From, the line-

out the ball again went down the blue three-quarters to Fuller, who scored between the posts, Kohika missing an easy kick. Shannon 14, Moutoa (5. A penalty to the reds saw Roddick miss and Roberts touch down. The blues were quickly on the move, but the reds forced. The attack was kept up, but mishandling by Waka and Roberts allowed tbe rods to find touch well in blue territory. Shortly afterwards the whistle sounded time. Mr. P. McLeavey ably controlled the game.
