How They Ran

Cashier All the Way All started in the Hurdles. Goldlike (£165 10/) was favourite, with Birkbcclc (£ll4 10/) next in demand. Cashier (£96) was third choice, and the brother of Otairi signalled his entry into the jumping game by winning from end to end, the margin between him and Tunbridgo being ton lengths. Kopje, Goldlike, Princess Elizabeth and Callamart lost a fair amount of ground at the start, and Cashier led over the first hurdle from Ex Dono and Royal. Damon, Birkbeck being at the head of the bunch. Through the straight it was Cashier, Ex Dono, Goldlike, The Warden, Birkbeck, Royal Damon, Tunbridge and Warzone, the field being well spread out. Going along the back Cashier was bowling along easily in front, well clear of Warzone, Tunbridgo and Goldlike, and across the top the first-named went away from the field. Cashier turned for home seven or eight lengths ahead of Tunbridge, Warzone, Goldlike and Easterly, and won as he liked by ten lengths. Tunbridge was a couple of lengths in front of Easterly and Warzone -was fourth, followed by Goldliko and Royal Damon. The winner never put a foot wrong, and the issue was never in doubt. Easy For Manifesto Knollmorc, Wallaruh and Valueless were withdrawn from the Dash Hack, and in tko field of six the betting took a wido range, there being plenty of support for Manifesto, Hinewai, Chief Savage, Derry Belle and False Scent. Manifesto, Happy Hit and Derry Belle were first out from a good start, but when the field had gone a furlong Happy Hit was acting as pacemaker, closely attended by Manifesto, Hinewai and False Scent. Entering the .straight Hinewai and Manifesto were together in front from Derry Belle and Falso Scent. In the run to the judge Manifesto drew away from the others and won nicely by the best part of three lengths, Thero was a good finish for second place, and Chief Savage came with a late run to head Derry Belle on the post. Hinewai was close up, fourth. Spearform Finishes Well

Grand Jury (£331) was installed a good favourite for the Winter Hack, Glenrossio (£l7B 10/) and Spearform (£149 10/) being next in demand. Jayson was moving forward and across the top was in third place behind Malahat and Merry Melody. Grand Jury was in fourth place and Spearform was tailing a bunched field. Malahat still had charge at the entrance to the straight, and turning for homo the loaders were Malahat, Grand Jury and Jayson, with the rest close up. In a good finish Malahat and Grand Jury were having a ding-dong tussle, but Spearform. joined issue just short of the post and, with a brilliant burst, got the verdict by a length from Malahat, which was a neck in front of Grand Jury. Jayson was fourth, the next to finish being Aurora Borealis. Black Duke Beats Chopin The race for the Crofton Handicap was a good one. Mount Shannon went to the front from the start and led out of the straight a couple of lengths clear of Pahu and Chopin, with another interval to Merry Damon and Black Duke-. There was no alteration until three furlongs from home, when Pahu moved up on Mount Shannon. The order across the top was Mount Shannon, Pahu, Chopin, Black Duke and Merry Damon, and there was little between them as they straightened up for the judge. x\t the bottom of tho straight Pahu was just in front of Mount Shannon, with Black Duke coming fast on the outer. Chopin was shut in on the rails.
