BURGLARS AT A PRISON
“TWO OF SCREWS’" PRANK. Wandsworth Prison is not safe, from burglars. In the prison grounds is a canteen where warders ,-wlicn off duty, play games and refresh themselves. Every convict in the prison sees . it daily with longing eyes. Each evening merry sounds from the canteen can reach the cells of less-happy residents of adjoining blocks. When the "mess" was opened recently it was discovered that unwelcome visitors had been there after closing time. Bottles of whisky and other" liquors, cigars and cigarettes were missing. ’ , , There was no signs of undue haste. Glasses had been used, cigars and cigarettes were strewn on the floor, even a f(_w sandwiches had been eaten. This note was left behind by the burglars: "We had a lovely time, old pals. Signed, Two Old Screws." In January, 1923, the canteen was raided and there are indications that this raid was carried out by the same men.
