Modrich In Manchester.
Clipped from a Manchester paper, the following paragraph gives vvliat is most likely the latest news of a former New Zealand heavy-weight boxer:—“All-in wrestling is well named, and it is essentially an entertainment for spectators endowed with strong nerves—especially if their seats are set near the ring. When Henry Irslinger and George Modrich in their set-to at Belle Vue last Friday were threatening and achieving success in throwing each other over the ropes, there were agile exhibitions of retreat by spectators in the danger zone; one man, indeed, was alleged not to have stopped running until he was well into Kirltmanshuline Lane I Irslinger, who won. denies, however, that the sport is brutal —and if he is willing to say so. he has every right to be believed. He also demonstrated that skill can overcome sheer weight and force.” George Modrich, the New Zealand heavy-weight boxer who went to England a few years ago had no success worth speaking of in the English ring. The recumbent position assumed by most wrestlers in the modern variety of match-wrestling should suit him admirably.
Experiments with the use of a large electric fan for drying out cricket pitches after rain are being tiiade id England. The first of these expert menis was to be conducted at Lorn s but as yet there is no news .of th • results.
