HEAVY STOCKS OF BUTTER AT HOME
Prices is Buyers’ Favour
AND MAY GO LOWER
United Press Association.—By Electric Telegraph.—Copyright. LONDON, April 6.
With heavy quantities of butter coming forward from Australia ana New Zealand, and the Continental production increasing, prices for all descriptions have moved in buyers’ favour, and it seems likely that they will go ’still lower. Danish is particularly weak, the price having fallen 34/- per cwt. since February .14. Commenting on the position, the newspaper Grocer says that various reasons arc put forward for tho decline, although it is difficult to suggest the real cause. It has been suggested that some pressure to sell has been brought to bear on holders of colonial butter who bought cheaply on c.i.f. terms; also, that the Easter requirements both here and on the Continent arc below expectations. This may bo attributable to the bad trade generally, or to the fact that supplies exceed requirements. Ono satisfactory aspect of the market .is that consumption for some months has been on a huge scale, thanks largely to the cheap retail prices.
