Sydney Harbour Bridge
PROGRESS OF THE WORK OPENING EARLY NEXT YEAR SYDNEY, March 12. Tho Sydney harbour bridge and its approaches are fast nearing completion. It is expected that the steelwork of the bridge will be actually completed by June, when a commencement will be made with the laying of the railway tracks and tram tracks, and the concreting of the roadway. One has actually to walk over the bridge to realise its massiveness and effectiveness, and to enjoy the wonderful panoramic views that arc obtainable of the harbour and the surrounding country. About 1500 men are still employed on the approaches, in the workshops and on the construction of tho bridge. Of this total, 750 employees are engaged on the approaches. The work on the approaches is being carried out by day labour. During recent weeks rapid progress has been made, particularly on the Miller’s Point side. The concrete stairways for the pedestrian traffic are now being erected on the city side. Considerable filling has yet to be done in connection with tho vihicle roadway on the northern approach. Most of the concreto work has boon completed. On either side of the vehicle entrance to this approach provision has been made for two smalt parks, which will add to the attractiveness of that portion of the city.
