MOTOR CYCLIST AND LADY PILLION RIDER COLLIDE WITH CAR
At Cloverlea Settlement
BOTH RECEIVE INJURIES TO LEGS As the result of a motor accident near the Cloverlea soldiers’ settlement, Palmerston North, last evening about 11 o’clock, Walter Jonson, of Hunterville, a motor-cyclist, and Miss Muriel Dorn, of K.airanga, a pillion-rider, were both admitted to the Palmerston North public hospital suffering from injuries to the legs, their machine colliding with a motor-car driven by Henry George Jewell, of Cloverlea. Tho motor-cyclist and his passenger were returning from the speedway meeting at the Showgrounds and, riding along Boundary road in the direction of Longburn, Jonson found it impossible to avoid tho fivc-soater car which was travelling in the same direction and attempted to turn into Buick’s line. Tho two vehicles ran together for a period, tho motor-cyclists then being thrown off their machine. Miss Dorn sustained a broken left leg, between the knee and the ankle, while one of Jonson’s ankles was sprained. The injuries, however, were not serious and after their removal to hospital, the two patients wore reported to bo in a satisfactory condition. Dr. Bctt, accompanied by Constable Busch, was promptly on the scone and attended to the injuries. An examination revealed that the motor-cycle had only received a dent on the exhaust pipe and the car had its rear mudguard and running board slightly damaged. Mr. Jewell was accompanied by his wife and two children, but none of those in tho car was injured.
