COMMODITIES IN BRITAIN DISPROPORTIONATE CHANGES Commenting on the index of sterling wholesale prices in the United Kingdom at January 31, the Statist remarked that the figure for the month was less than 1 per cent, above the average for 1913, so that wholesale prices (for raw materials) may thus be said to have reverted to their pre-war level. Comparing the various group index numbers with their 1913 equivalents, the Statist observed that vegetable foods in January were 1.3 per cent, above the 1912 average; animal food prices, on the other hand; still showed an increase of 33 per cent, over the prewar level, while groceries were lower by 18.4 pr cent. Minerals were 6.5 per cent, lower, while the fall in textiles was to a level 19.5 per cent, below the 1913 average. Sundry materials on the other hand were up by 8.5 per cent. A cable message published on March 10 stated that for the first time since July, 1929, the Economist’s index number of wholesale prices at the end of February showed a slight upward movement-
