ALL THAT IS LEFT OF THE MALABAR

Breaks Up With Great Rapidity

BEACHCOMBERS BUSY United Press Association.—By Electric Telegraph.—Copyright. Received Sunday, 11.35 p.m. SYDNEY, April 5. The rapidity with which tho Malabar has broken up surprised many thousands of sightseers wh« paid a return visit to tho scene to-day. Fifty feet of her battered bows utc swinging parallel with the amidships section. The two parts arc lashed together with steel hawsers. Tho underwriters arc selling the derelict on Tuesday. The stern has also broken off, and only the merest portion is showing above tho water. Tho wreck is now lying close under the cliff, and is being pounded by the heavy seas. Two men stepped aboard yesterday and removed the compass. They were pursued by the police over a rocky ledge and finally caught. They were charged with the theft of the compass and also a lifeboat. Kegs of beer floated under the cliffs and men risked their lives in order to recover them. Beachcombers and souvenir hunters arc operating in hundreds. The inquiry into the loss of the Malabar is opening early this week.
