When Eve Chooses Her Car

When a new and inviting dish is set before a man he merely samples the finished article, and does not make disconcerting inquiries as to the ingredients or method employed in the attainment of the result. In the same way does a woman choose, her car. Most women are not, on the whole, mechanically inclined, and know little about the technical side of the problem. Undoubtedly a woman’s first thoughts always turn in the same direction —comfort. .She sits in' each seat in turn, testing the shape and size of the bucket seats, the texture and contents of the cushions or the position of the arm-rests. For how can a car be oxpeeted to give satisfaction when such elementary. considerations do not meet with approval? Nowadays the opening of the doors in relation to the position of the mudguards plays quite an important part in the selection of a car. For, with the vogue of the trailing skirt, nothing is more annoying than to catoh the hem of one’s gown on a dirty mudguard when alighting at a dance or similar event.

The interior lighting, the colour of the body, and the fittings are all points of interest, .while the size and distance of clutch and brake pedals from the floor, though seemingly unimportant, are features which, in tho feminine mind, invite much comment. Above all, the car must be easy of starting. Nothing annoys a woman more than having to wrestle with a starting handle, particularly when shopping or paying calls.
