Refugees at the Camps in the City

The Mayor of Palmerston City, Mr. A. J. Graham, has adopted the policy of gradually reducing the numbers of refugees at the various camps when possible and the visitors are being despatched to other towns where hospitality is being extended. Up till midnight last night, there were 1,680 Hawke’s Bay people resident at the Showgrounds camp, while the Awapuni list totalled 380.

A number of cases were taken from the Convent hospital to Hawera and 500 refugees are already scheduled to leave for Wellington to-day.
