LAST NIGHT OF WILLIAM POWELL IN ‘ ‘BEHIND THE MAKE-UP.”
The Paramount all-talking picture, ‘ ‘Behind the Make-up” so successfully presented at the Majestic theatre last night will be finally shown to-night. “Behind the Make-up” is a dramatic story of betrayed friendship and love, a story that lays bare the heart-aches that are covered with the grease-paint For the role of Hap Brown, vaudeville entertainer and prince of fellows, Hal Skelly was chosen and his dancing makes a great hit. In this all-talking picture there is a little dancing and singing, but daring trick riding on bicycles by Skelly is one of the features. For the hypnotic Gurdoni, William Powell was selected, and a wondorfm characterisation, he gives of his part. The girl is Fay Wray.. To the part of the alluring cabaret hostess was as signed Kay Francis, whose characteris ations of late have been seen in many pictures. E." H. Calvert is also a prominent members of the east. The featurettes include the Charlie Chase singing and talking comedy, '‘High C’s,’ the Metrotone news, glories of Nikko. travilogue, “Village Barber” cartoon and ‘ ‘ Summit Seekets, ’ ’ Government publicity film.
‘DAME SAHOY” AND “HIS FIRST COMMAND” TO-MORROW.
A particularly bright double feature programme “Dames Ahoy” and “His First Command/’ is announced for to-morrow at the Majestic theatre. ‘n “Dames Ahoy’’ the hilarious comedy, the song “Barnacle. Bill” is sung by Gleen Try on, who is starred in the picture, and his fellow-gobs, Otis Harlan and Eddie Gribbon. The picture deals with the amazingly funny adventures of the three gobs on shore leave. How the three gobs, womanhaters all, get all snarled up with the fair and designing sex is a situation offering abundant material for one of the funniest pictures that has ever come to the screen. In “His .First Command,” the principals are William Boyd, and Dorothy Sebastian. It is a rich comedy drama of military life vibrant with romance and thrills with a love 'story absorbing interest, set in the colourful background of the United States cavalry. “His First Command” is hailed by receivers as one 'of the best since the advent of the talkies.
