INQUEST INTO DEATH OF MAOEI WOMAN. An inquest into the circumstances surrounding the death of Tupa Kiriona, a Maori -woman residing at Shannon, was held before Mr A. Fraser, District Coroner at Shannon on Tuesday, Evidcnco was given by Dr. E. T. G. Miller, of Levin, who stated that he last saw the deceased alive in October last. She -was then suffering from tuberculosis in an advanced stage, and ho had procured her admission' to the Palmerston North hospital. Ho had viewed tho body of deceased on Monday and was satisfied that death had resulted from tuberculosis of tho lungs. Heu Heu Kiriona, labourer residing at Ballance Street, Shannon, husband of the deceased, said his -wife had been ill since July last wlieu she suffered from chronic bronchitis and pleurisy. Deceased had been admitted to the Palmerston North Hospital in October last and while the.ro was attended by Dts. Ward and Haycock. On the 21st January last, witness had brought his wife home in a car against the doctor’s consent. Since her return homo, deceased had been practically confined to her bed, getting up for only a few minutes at a time to sit before tho window.

Ngaki Kiriona, 22 year old daughter of tho previous witness and deceased, gave corroborative evidence. She said her mother left the hospital of heT own free will. Witness and her father were present when her mother expired. Another daughter, Mrs Bapuwai Hakaraia of Levin, gave evidence of having visited her mother tho day before she died. Her mother was 44 years of age and seeimed all right when.sho left her on Saturday night. Dr. Miller had previously told her that her mother was suffering from tuberculosis. After hearing tho evidence., the Coroner gave his verdict that the deceased woman met her death through natural causes. Social Evening.

A social evening was held in. the Presbyterian schoolroom on Monday, when members of the Combined Bible Classes gathered together to extond a welcome to the Rev. and Mrs Preston and daughter. The opportunity was also taken to bid farewell to Miss Margaret Barron, who is a member of the senior girls’ Bible class. Tho secretary, Mr M. Baird, on behalf of the Bible classes, extended a hearty welcome to the newcomers. Mr Preston thanked those present for their wolcomo and said ho would bo pleased to help their organisations in any way he could. On behalf of the members of tho Bible classes, Mrs John Ross presented Miss MaTgaret Barron, who will shortly leave Foxton for Dunedin, with a traveller’s outfit. Mrs Boss said that much regret was felt by all at the departure of Miss Barron, as she, had been keenly interested in the Bible Glass movement, and all wished her success in her future career. Miss Barron suitably acknowledged the good washes and gift. The remainder of the evening was spent with progressive games and competitions, interspersed with musical and elocutionary items, the competitions being won by Miss Margaret Barron and Mr Frank Cowley. solos, Mr A. Anderson. A dainty supper was handed round, and the singing of “Auld Lang Syne” brought a most enjoyable evening to a close. DIZZINESS VANISHES Mrs. L. Tracy, 21 France Street, Newton, Auckland, writes: —“In dispelling Biliousness I used Dr. Morse’s Indian Rooj; Pills, and after taking a couple of doses of these pills I. feel very much better and the dizziness vanishes.
