Mr. W. T. Leverscdgc, manager of the Bank of New South Wales in Napier, is in hospital, suffering from slight concussion duo to being hit by a piece of falling brick.
A terrific hailstorm visited Levin ana district last evening, leaving the countryside as whito as after a fall of snow. The hailstones were as big as birds’ eggs and drifts IS inches deep were to bo seen about the houses. No damage was reported of any consequence. The local'telephone exchango is at present congested through excessive traffic. The automatic system cannot cope with more than a certain number of calls’ j)er minute. To assist in reducing this excessive traffic, subscribers are requested to make their domestic calls as few and as brief as possible during the present period in order that calls in connection with the relief of the distressed Hawke’s Bay citizens may not be unduly delayed.
