SERVED SENTENCES IN PARIS

LONDON, Jan. 6,
Supposedly born in Australia, Gerald Vladimir Crichton, alias Upjohns, falsely self-described as a nephew of Sir Gcorgo Crichton, was sentenced at Marlborough street Police Court to-day to six months’ imprisonment with hard labour for incurring a debt of eight, guineas at a Dover street hotel by means of false pretences on Christmas Day. Another man paid tho debt on January 2. Crichton said that ho came to England from Capo Eerrat in order to re : but a charge of plagiarism. A dctectivo testilied that Crichton’s articles wero cribbed.
Crichton had been imprisoned for a week in Sydney, sentenced at Wellington, New Zealand, for false pretences, ami in Paris for vagabondage as tho result of not paying for a champagne supper for cabaret girls.

[Remarkable adventures in a night club of tho gay Montmartre quarter were encountered by a Londoner, who was lately set at liberty after being detained' on a complaint by tho night club management. Tho episode centred round a “Captain Criftson.’’ According to tho story told to the polico by the night club management in seeking the captain’s arrest, he entered the club when the gaiety was at its height, and asked everyone present to eat with him. When a bill of £IOO was. presented to him later, the captain is alleged to have refused to pay it, and the polico wore then called. On tho other hand, tho captain complains of having been treated as a fool. He declares that he may have asked one or two persons to have a drink with him, but that he thought tho bill was a ridiculous imposition, and refused to bo “the mug.” After police investigation “Captain Criftson,” w-ho was said to he tho son of a Russian countess, but born in England, was released, and the night club management announced that tho captain’s bill had been reduced to £l6.
