Church Services

Visitors and strangers are very cordially invited to attend tho service at St. Paul’s Methodist Church, Broadway Avenue, to-morrow at 11 a.m. and 7 p.m. Tho morning preacher "will be the Eev. J. C. Draper, the subject being, “Finding Jesus Christ.” The evening service will be entirely musical. J. H. Maunder’s cantata, “Bethlehem” is to be rendered by an augmented choir and soloists. The cantata is a beautiful work ,and as its name indicates, is an account of what took place at Bethlehem when Jesus was born. The story is divided into three parts —The Shepherds’ gifts, The King’s gifts, our gift. Interspersed are old Christmas hymns in which tho congregation will be asked to join. Talented soloists will take the chief parts, amongst whom are Mrs Ivan Brown (Wanganui), Miss E. Grinstead, Mr W. Eov Hill (Wellington), Mr A. J. MeLeavey and Mr H. E. Woodhouse. Headers arc advised to come early to secure a scat as it is expected St. Paul’s Church will be packed to-morrow evening.

The services to-morrow at the Cuba Street Methodist Church will be in keeping with tho festive season, the minister of tho church, tho Eev. J. D: McArthur officiating. The subject in the morning will be ‘God with us’. At 7 o’clock tho choir will render thft sacred cantata ‘The Nativity of Christ.,’ and music-lovers are promised a rare treat. The soloists will be Mrs F. Coupe, Miss Doris Morgan, Messrs J. Knowles and J. Perrin. At Longburn at 2.30, Mr McArthur will preach. Worshippers are cordially invited to these services, and a special invitation is extended to visitors to the city. “If you have no Church home, make our’s your’s.” A service will be held at Cuba Street on Christmas morning at 9 o’clock. Offertory for orphanage. The services at the United Evangelical Church held in the Kosy Hall will bo taken by Mr Whitehead in the morning at 11 o’clock when his subject will* be “A little child in the midst.” The Sunday School and Bible Class will be held at 2.30. In the evening at 7 o’clock Mr Bichards will preach on the subject of “The Homeless Stranger.” Mr Bichards contends that there is no subject which is more exalting to Jesus Christ than to speak of Him in His great humiliation. Services in Emmanuel Congregational Church, Broadway, to-morrow will be of a special nature. At the 11 o’clock service the pastor will make special reference to tho lato Mr. J. E. Croft, and the solo will bo rendered by Mrs. Parsons. At 5.30 p.m. a Christmas service will be held at the public hospital,- Miss James rendering the solo. The evening service at 7 o’clock will be a special Christmas one, the subject being “The Message of “Christmas.” Christmas hymns will bo sung and the choir will render the anthem. A very warm welcome is extended to visitors and strangers to the city to worship at the Congregational Church.

Special Christmas services will bo held in St. Andrew’s Church to-morrow morning and evening. Special hymns and solos will be rendered by the choir and Rev. G. T. Brown will speak in the morning on “The Joy of Christmas” and in the evening on “No Room.”
