Feilding Public Schools

BREAK-UP CELEBRATIONS Yesterday Feilding public schools, in common with those in other parts ot the country held their break-up celebrations for the Christmas vacation. At Manchester street school the Hon. J. CL Cobbe, Minister of Defence, was present to present the proliciency and. tittendance certificates. There was a good gathering of parents and members of the school committee, over which Air G. J. Fitzpatrick presided. During the proceedings Airs Cobbe was presented with a beautiful bouquet by one of the little girls of the lower standards. In addressing the children after an impromptu concert provided by pupils from each class, the Minister recalled his early associations with tho school ami remarked upon the wonderful progress which had been made. Commenting bn the roll of -157 Air Cobbe said it was really wonderful to think that as the years passed this school was turning out so many children to go forward to the next stage of life’s education. Ho heartily congratulated the headmaster, Air Mcllrov, and his stall and the successful students.

I.YTTON STREET SCHOOL

The official part of the closing down ceremony at the Lyttou street school took place on Wednesday so that yesterday morning the pupils had what they wore happy to call their ‘'party.” All came to school with a little parcel of cakes, sandwiches, etc., and many brought bottles of coloured drinks, the whole of which was pooled by standards and at suitable hours, according to the ages of the children, each class had its party. Impromptu concerts were held in the different classes and the morning was spent in games till one o’clock came when the happy children, after a. rollicking morning, were sent home for the last time this year.
