TO ASSIST FOXTON’S UNEMPLOYED.

Word has been received by tho chairman of the Manawatu County Council (Mr W. E. Barber) that as a result of recent representations mado to the Main Highways Board for a subsidy towards the cost of tho proposed road work between Sorenson’s corner at Himatangi and Sanson; tho Highways Board has authorised tho grant of £IOOO, as a £o for £1 subsidy towards same.

As the work is to be put iu hand immediately and a largo number of men will shortly be required on tho job, the position of the unemployed in Foxtou should now be considerably improved. A start was made on the Sanatorium road work at the Foxtou Beach on Tuesday morning and £0 men arc now engaged there, which is also helping to ease tho critical position which has prevailed locally for so many weeks. Mr Barber has also received word that the work in the Feilding cutting is now also to be pushed on without delay.
