Mrs H. G. Bagnall and Miss N. Bagnail, of Palmerston North were weekend visitors to Wellington. Miss Peggy Bagnall, who has been spending her annual vacation in Palmerston North with her parents, Mr and Mrs H. G. Bagnall, of To Awe Awe street, returned to Wellington on Saturday. By means of a street stall on Saturday last members of the company committee, representing second company, Palmerston North Guides, augmented camp funds by a satisfactory amount. The ladies in eharge of the stall were Mcsdamcs Wimsett, Free and Field and they were assisted by members of tho Guido company. Lady members of Orange Lodge No. 34 held a most successful jumble sale in the Orange hall on Saturday afternoon to assist in providing Christmas fare for the children in All Saints, and the Willard Children’s Homes. As a result of their kindly efforts tho sum of £7 was realised to divide between the two homes. Mrs Johanna Marie Petersen, of Pahiatua, celebrated her 95th birthday on Wednesday. Mrs Petersen left Hamburg with her husband in the sailing ship Fritdeidcr on November 11, 1874. The vessel encountered very severe weather after a few days out, sustaining some injury, and was forced to put back to Cuxhaven for repairs. There were nearly 500 passengers on board, a number of whom died during the voyage. The food was very rough and tire passengers had anything but a happy time. Mr and Mrs Petersen landed at Napier in January, 1575, where they [lived for a short time. Later they purchased a small section at Norsewood — virgin bush country'. They suffered many privations, and were burnt out on two occasions. From Norsewood they removed to Dannevirke. After her husband’s death Mrs Petersen went to Pahiatua, whore she has resided ever since. Considering her great age (says the Pahiatua Herald), tho old lady is in remarkably good hoaltk. Her mental faculties are exceptionally keen, and she has a splendid memory. She talks very interestingly of the Austro-Ger-man. war against Denmark in 1804, and tells a vivid story of the enemy occupation of her country.
