From Our Own correspondent. Mrs. James Currie, Waverley, is the guest of her mother, Mrs W. Hr Gunning, Bryce Street. Mr W. H. Gunning, who has been in a private hospital at Levin, expects to return home early this week. Mr A. Blackwood, of Mangaore, who has been on a visit to Christchurch, returned to Shannon on Friday. Miss Ruby Hook, who has been in indifferent health, loaves Christchurch on Monday for her homo in Shannon. Mr 1. Ewart, of the local Post Office staff, who has left for Tamnarunui was met by the local staff and presented with a casket of cigarettes and a lighter by Mr Clifford Jones, postmaster, on behalf of tho staff. Mr L. Mackay, Opunake, has taken over Mr Ewart’s position. Bowling. On Saturday afternoon, twenty bowlers visited Levin. Ono rink challenged for the Kinneburgh feathers, and the other four played friendly games. In the Kinneburgh feather match the score on the 2Uth. head was 27 all and Levin managed to draw a two on the last head to win. The friendly games resulted in a win for Shannon by 88 to 65. Tho Kinneburgh teams were as follow:—Shannon: Cronquest, Henry, Roach, Knowles (skip) 27; Levin: Suhau, Langelau, Brown, Bull 29. Fell, Jones v. C. Hook, Bovis a bye. In the B Grade draw, Downes v. Alexander, Pilkingtou v. Radford. The following have two lives: Quarrie, Jones and C. Hook in the A grade and Pilkingtou in the B' grade.

Cricket. Shannon hud a good win against To Hero on Saturday afternoon. Tc Horo batted first and scored 67, of which W. Barber hit up 51, of which one six and ten fours were the main component parts. The first wicket fell for live and the second, third, fourth and fifth went for an increase of one run. Barber then got tho bowling and raised the score to 47 before the next wicket fell, but the rest could not put on many more. Picard put up a good 42 for Shannon, and Cundy had an excellent knock for 46, including three sixes ami six fours; Mabey put up a useful 27. The last four wickets only put on an increase of one run. In the second innings Barber hit up 25, Gobbe 12 and McLoavey 10, being the only other doublo-ligiire scorers. TE HORO. —First Innings. B.
