Happy Gathering at Waituna West

One of the happiest and brightest functions held in Waituna for some time was the children’s fancy dress ball. The hall had been charmingly decorated by several willing workers, the walls being decorated to give the effect of a frog pond with flax along the sides and frogs sending up bubbles represented by balloons. The stage was very pretty. Along the front were miniature trees growing in pots in nursery rhyme style—the pots being linked together with coloured chains and broken by an arch of foliage and balloons. Through this arch the children entered to perform their fancy marching which they did faultlessly, much to the delight of admiring parents and friends. Everyone was delighted by the way in which the lancers and Sir Roger de Coverly were danced. Tiny tots went through the figures without a mistake and thoroughly enjoyed themselves at the same time. At 9.15 a parade of all the children present took place and much amusement was caused by the sight of BoPeep with her bonnie, 1930, real live lamb. The parade finished in the supper room where a delicious supper was provided for the children by the parents and friends in the district.

Thanks are due to the many willing helpers, especially Miss Guylee, Mrs J. H. Williamson, Mrs England and Miss Jean Johnson who gave so much time and spared no effort in helping with the practices before the dance and in decorating the hall Mrs A. E. Pearce also earned grateful thanks by providing music for the .practices Bramwell’s orchestra provided music for the daiice.
