Awapuni Track Notes The tracks were in good order at Awapuni yesterday morning and a fair amount of fast work was carried out, the outside of the course proper being available. Merry Damon, Callamart and Bisk, the first-named having tho best of the weights, were associated in a good gallop over a mile. They were together for the greater part of the journey, but Merry Damon and Callamart drew away at the finish, the former being in front, the disfanee being covered i:i 1.5-1. Archerin (Bob. Holies up) and Otairi (T. Green) finished on terms after a good six furlongs, taking 1.19 for the journey. Kcddar and Glen Kossie did good steady work. Desert Lad (B. Hellos) and Acco (T. Green) got away-well together in a flutter over five furlongs. They were together at the finish and w r erc timed to run it in 1.9. There was nothing in it. between Mister Gamp and Skyridcr at the end of a solid mile. Mister Gamp is a picture at present and moved Very attractively. Great Lady, with an advantage in the weights, finished clear of Buie Britannia after five furlongs covered in 1.9. importing Chanco (T. Green) was doing better than Gran Chaco (W. Broughton) at the end of five furlongs though Gran Chaco had the better of tho start. They were on terms .at the pofct, having cut the distanco out' in 1.9. Coon Song moved freely in a sprint up tho back of the course. Charlie Jones has a nice filly in the two-year-old Jean Lndosio (Arauslo — Jean Laddo). She was sent along down the straight yesterday morning and moved very smoothly. According to a Sydney exchange at least one New Zealand trainer has found that races in Svdnetr are not too easy to win. This is B. Burgess, who took Atholspear,. Spcarmiss, Werata, Ben Hur, Lady Gen and Austerity to Sydney. His horses have failed to strike form, and have not won a race among.them. Austerity went amiss and was sent home soon after her arrival. It has been an expensive trip for Burgess, but possibly he will .get into his stride again as soon as he gets back to tho Dominion. The Chelmsford Stakes, 1250 sovs, 9 furlongs, flic race that first revealed Phar Lap in the light of a good horse, and has introduced or reintroduced many another champion in the new season, is down for decision at Sandwich this year on September 15. With Phar Lap, Nightmarish, Limerick, Amounis, and the New Zealand crack, Hunting Cry, not to . mention many other • first.? class horses, available for the face, the entry should offer a great attraction (says a Sydney writer). , ; Gloaming has held the Australasian record for stake earnings for several seasons past, his total being 43,100 sovs, but it looks as though Amounis will create fresh figures this season. At the end of last season his earnings had amounted to 10,693 J sovs. His success in the Warwick Stakes increased his winnings to £41,447. Limerick’s come-back in the Warwick Stakes was not impressive, but the trainer, B. D. Jones, is hopeful that his charge will soon lie able to demonstrate that Saturday’s form was all wrong. The gelding was squeezed back -between four and five furlongs from home and could not get closer than seventh. On cooling down lie showed an inclination to soreness in front, but it is not suggested that a recurrence is likely of the trouble that threw him out of action last year. Twenty-five polo ponies belonging t.e the Ashton Brothers, of Goulbourn, sold at auction in New York, realised £15,520. Tho top price was £2OOO for a six-year-old mare.
