Wet and Cold The cyclone is still very intense and extensive. The centre covers a large area extending on both sides of Cook Strait. A moderate anti-cyclone covers Eastern Australia. Winds: Variable and light to moderate with southerlies prevailing in the central portions of v the Dominion. Strong south-easterlies in the South and strong south-westerlies to gales in the North; later southerlies freshening generally and reaching gale force in exposed positions. Seas (New Zealand waters): Becoming rough generally. Tasman Sea: Strong southerly winds to gales and rough seas in the Eastern Tasman. Weather improving on the West Coast of tho South Island; elsewhere still dull, misty and unsettled with ram in most districts and some heavy falls in places.
