A WALK-OVER. NO PENALTY INCURRED. , y AN ENGLISH CASE;*"' U • The stewards at the' York Spring Meeting Club referred to the stew?, aids of the English Jockey Club the question whether The Bastard, the winder of the Yorkshire Cup, should have carried a penalty for walking over for the Whip at Newmarket, and asked for a ruling. The stewards of the Jockey Club (Sir George Bullough acting for Lord Rosebery) decided that no penalty was incurred. In giving this mling, they arc following a precedent formed in 1910, when two horses were subscribed for and one of them, Royal Realm, walked ever and did not incur a penalty for doing so. There will be point-to-point steeplechases at Dannevirke to-day and at Mr. J. .T. Bryce’s property, Kiwitea, tomorrow. The Manawatu Hunt will not meet to-day. Mr. T. Petersen’s 5-year-old gelding, Evening Hero, jumped like a champion in the Longburn Hurdles on Saturday and was well in the picture during the greater part of the journey. Evening Hero will be worth watching for future engagements. The final event at the Manawatu Racing Club’s Winter meeting was wonby Mr. C. T. Keeble’s 3-year-old, Sporting Chance. Sporting Chance was a promising sort as a two-year-old and was fancied for Wairarapa last April but, unfortunately for his connections, he struck himgclf aiid tho trip had to be cancelled. He is in .Mr. W. T. Bailey’s charge. Mr. Cecil Louisson’s .colt Sabatini (Aransio —Gortyn) was given to Mr. Louisson by Mr. F. Ormond when Millais, who had been purchased by Mr. Louisson .from Mr. Ormond, broke his fetlock in his first start under the claret, royal blue sleeves and light blue cap. This month the Dannevirke Racing Club and the Dannevirke Hunt Club meetings will bo held, and it should bo noted that nominations for both fixtures will close on Fridhy, August .15. On the same day. nominations W-iii close for the Marton spring meeting. For the Taranaki Hunt Club’s meeting on Saturday, August 30, nominations will close on Monday, August 11, at 9 p.m.
