Miss C. Morice, of Wellington, is the guest of Mrs. A. F. Friz Herbert. Miss Nita McHardy and Mr. P. MeHardy returned to Hawke’s Bay on Saturday last. Mrs J. Donald, of Masterton, is the guest of her mother, Mrs I. M. Graham. The regular meeting of tho District Nursing Guild will bo held at the Conn, cil chambers at 2.30 o'clock this afternoon. Mrs Emily Wheeler, aged 85, who died recently at Slough, England, was a domestic servant in ono family for 65 years. Mrs. J. Stevenson, of New Plymouth, is visiting Palmerston North and is staying with her parents, Mr. and Mrs. W. McKegg. Miss E. Bonnington and Mr R. Barber, of Christchurch, are at present on a visit to the latter sister, Mrs Wattio Booth, Cheltenham. Mr. and Mrs. Alex Strang and Mr. and Mrs. Colin Strang, of New Plymouth, were visitors to Palmerston North for the week-end. The engagement is reported of Miss Enid Falkiner, of New South Wales, to Mr. Eric Nelson, of Hawke’s Bay. It will be romembered that Miss Lucy Falkiner, a sister, married Mr. J. Lowry, also of Hawke's Bay. The death occurred at the Wellington hospital on Thursday of Mrs Eva | Hester Harding, wife of Rev. A. Harding, of Lower Hutt and formerly of Pahiatua. The deceased lady, who was aged 67 years, was of a kindly nature and a great help-meet to her husband being an indefatigable worker in the interests of the Methodist Church. Her demise will be regretted by many friends and deep sympathy will be extended to the sorrowing husband and Miss Harding.

At her residence, 39 Waldegravo street, on Thursday evening, Mrs. Strode Penny entertained members of the family and a small gathering of friends to celebrate her eightieth birthday. The festive board was graced with a handsome birthday cake while the health of the hostess was duly honoured to the accompaniment of congratulatory sentiments wishing her continued health and happiness amongst the wide community of relatives and friends to whom sho ha 3 endeared herself in a long and useful life. Mrs. Penny was also the recipient of many expressions of goodwill by mail and telegram wishing her 4 ‘Many happy returns of the day.”

News has been, received that Miss Beryl Bickerton, of Christehurch, who left New Zealand to continue her studies at tho Architectural Association School in London, has passod the intermediate examination with honourable mention. She also, in a class, of about 70 students, gained the prize for the best measured drawing. Miss Bickerton matriculated at the Christchurch Girls’ High School, and then studied at Canterbury College and the School of Art.
