The vital statistics for Foxton for the month of July, with the figures for the corresponding period of last year in parenthesis, are as follows:—Births, 3 (7); deaths, 1 (1); marriages, 2 (ilil); Maori bifths, nil (nil); Maori deaths, nil (3). July Weather. Bain fell locally on ten days during July, the maximum fall being one inch, wh:ch was registered on Monday, the 21st. Tho total rainfall for the month was 2.02 inches. The wannest day was Saturday, the 19th, when the thermometer registered 53 degrees. The coldest day was Monday the 7th, when the teninorature recorded was as low as 34 degrees. Social Evening. Members of "the All Saints’ choir held a successful social and dance in the Anglican schoolroom on Thursday, when the l&ige number of people present spent a most enjoyable timo in dancing and participating in various games. Community singing was also indulged in and greatly enjoyed. Two Monte Carlo dance competitions ■were held and wero won by tho following:—Mr. J. Gower and Miss V. Guthrie, Mr. S. Sinclair and Miss M. McGee. Confetti and streamers added colour to the dancing, the music for which was supplied by Messrs L. Mattar and Header. Mr. F. Caple playing the extra?. The duties of M.C. were carried out by Mr. E. C. Murphy. A dainty supper was handed round' by members of the social committe, after which dancing was continued until midnight.

Basketball, , On Wednesday afternoon, two teams selected from the Foxton Town Girls’ Basketball Club, travelled to Marton, where they met teams sclcctod from tho Ma/tpn High School.

The local A team was successful in defeating Marton by six points to one, while the B team was defeated by live points to nil, At the conclusion of the games the visitors wero hospitably entertained by the Marton players, who intimated that they were looking forward to their visit to Foxton, where the return match will be played.
