To Girdle Globe in Twenty Days
“CITY OF NEW YORK’S SPEED 150 M.P.H. NEW YORK, Aug. 3. John Henry Hears, famed as a globetrotter, in an endeavour to regain the round the world record takon by the Graf Zeppelin, left Roosevelt Field this morning for Harbour Grace in the Lockhecd-Voga cabin monoplane “City of New York” with H. J. Brown as pilot. A Sealyham terrior accompanies them. Hears, who made records in 1913 and 1928, now hopes to round the world in 20 days, thus breaking the Graf Zeppelin’s 23 days 15 hours. The flight will bo via Dublin, Berlin, Moscow, Nova Sibrak, Chita, Khabarovsk and Chignik, across the Bering Sea fringe and the North Pacific to Seattle, thence to Chicago and New York. " • • ■ Tbo “City of New Y’ork’’ is fitted with high wings and a 425-horse power AYasp motor. She has a flying range of 18 hours and 2500 miles and a cruising speed of 150 miles per hour. The flight is expected to take from 15 to 20 days. A message from Harbour Grace states that Hears arrived there on Saturday afternoon. He leaves to-night or to-morrow for Baldonnel.
